Online Discussion Forum
/ Email List
JHAA maintains a members-only online discussion forum for area residents.
This forum is a Yahoo Group, sometimes referred to as an e-group. It
is essentially an email distribution list but offers additional features and benefits
because it is an interactive forum where you may participate in email
discussions. JHAA
members use this group/forum to:
-
Post notices about upcoming
neighborhood meetings and events.
-
Coordinate/plan
neighborhood events.
-
Address/discuss
neighborhood issues.
-
Present questions to the community.
(e.g., ask
for recommendations for a good plumber, ask if anyone has seen a lost dog,
etc.)
-
Post neighborhood security watch information.
(e.g., if a suspicious vehicle has been spotted in the area, or if people
are going door-to-door with sales scams)
-
Our police
precinct captain also posts weekly crime reports for the entire precinct
area.
Joining the Forum
To join the forum, send an email to
jhaamobile-owner@yahoogroups.com and
include your name and your
street address. Your address information will be kept private, but since this is a
discussion forum only for area residents, your residency must be
confirmed by one of the forum moderators before you may join.
No Fee, No Spam
There is no fee to join or belong to the forum, and you do not have to have
a Yahoo email address.
The forum is a NO-SPAM list. Only emails which are related to JHAA
issues will be approved, posted and distributed to members. Two JHAA members
function as moderators of the forum.
How it Works
Most people use the forum like regular email. A member can send an
email to the group email address, and everyone in the group then receives a
copy of the email. Another member may reply to that, and their reply
will go to the entire group. The forum works much like any other email
distribution list.
If you prefer to read the messages on a website, rather than receive them in
your email inbox, you can set up a Yahoo ID. Then you can read the
messages online at the Yahoo Group website, just like any other online
bulletin board or online discussion forum.

are sometimes moderated for appropriateness, language, etc. For more details,
see Forum Etiquette.
Advantages of the Forum
We encourage you to join and participate in the online
discussions. Advantages of the forum:
-
It allows us to interact
and communicate more
frequently than just the once-a-month meetings.
-
Because it is
an interactive venue, it eliminates the one-way channel
of communication where only one person sends out emails to all others in the
group. The forum allows any member to post a message to share
with others.
-
It lets you stay up to date on the
issues if you miss a meeting.
-
It allows for
thorough discussion of a topic, with input from all members who wish to
weigh in, without the time constraints or schedule coordination of in-person
meetings.
-
One written email
can often accomplish a communication task and the dissemination of
information more quickly and efficiently than numerous phone calls
(including endless rounds of missed-calls "phone tag"), and it can help
reduce instances of the "I thought you said" syndrome.
-
Electronic versions of the
newsletters and other documents can be distributed via the forum. This
allows us to
reduce the number of paper newsletters we distribute, which helps us save
money, paper and trees!

Use any address you like
Note that to receive JHAA emails from the forum, you do not need a
Yahoo ID or email address. But if you wish to view files stored in the
Files section of our forum (past meeting minutes, archived newsletters,
etc.), or if you wish to participate in our online polls or view our online
calendar, you will need a Yahoo ID.
Even after setting up a Yahoo ID
for viewing the archived files, polls, calendar, etc., note that you may
still use any email address you wish for delivery of JHAA emails.
See Using the Yahoo Forum for more information.
