Meetings, NewsJHAA meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 6:30pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Azalea Road. The neighborhood issues portion of the meeting generally runs approximately 30-45 minutes. If we have a guest speaker, or if we wish to discourse among ourselves on a special topic or pressing issue, another 15-30 minutes or more of meeting time may be allotted. We invite neighborhood residents to suggest themes, topics or guest speakers for the second half of the meetings, or to volunteer themselves to speak about an area in which they have expertise. JHAA Members: To help out with neighborhood projects or to ask questions, contact the JHAA at jacksonheights@jhaa.org. Or you may prefer to post your email message on the JHAAMobile Yahoo discussion forum. Include in the subject line of the email the topic about which you are interested. Guest SpeakersAt many of our meetings, we will have a guest speaker give a presentation or speech on a particular topic. The guest presentation must focus on the informational rather than the rhetorical or on advertisement, although the meeting obviously provides the speaker with an opportunity to touch upon his/her platform or business. Members may participate in a Q&A session after the speaker's introduction. If you would like to be a speaker at (or recommend a speaker for) our next meeting, send an email to jacksonheights@jhaa.org with your name, contact info and the topic you would like to discuss or hear discussed. Note: The JHAA does not endorse candidates for government or other office, nor does it recommend any business, product or line of action presented by guest speakers. Guest speakers are merely given a forum for our members to ask questions and gain information about the speaker's area of expertise. Meeting Minutes & Newsletter ArchivesMeeting Minutes and Archived Newsletters are stored in the Files section of our private Yahoo forum. For more information, see Online Discussion Forum. Ongoing IssuesTrash -- Please do not put your trash or garbage out more than 48 hours before a scheduled city pickup. This is the maximum time allowed by law. Violations are subject to a $400 fine from the city. Encourage your lawn maintenance workers to come on the Wednesday or Thursday of a trash pickup week. Check the schedule first: Garbage & Trash Pickup Schedule Dogs -- Please do not allow your dogs to roam free in the neighborhood. This is a violation of city leash laws, subject to fines and dog pickup by animal control. On public streets, dogs must be walked on leashes. When unleashed, they should be kept indoors or inside fenced areas of your yard. When walking your dog, please be considerate and bring along a plastic bag or pooper scooper. ATVs -- Please do not ride ATVs in the streets, especially on the busier streets of the neighborhood. This is a dangerous traffic hazard and particularly risky for children, who are generally the ones riding them (and frequently without helmets!). It is also a violation of city street vehicle laws and subject to fines.
